May 6 newsletter

Toy Day
We completed another SMART chart for good behavior.  To celebrate, we will have a “toy day” on Monday.  Your child can bring in one toy to school to share with the other students.  The students will be allowed to take the toy outside to play with.

Thank you Celebration
Please join us for a Thank you Celebration May 20 at 1:40.  We will celebrate our moms and dads.  We will also celebrate the end of a wonderful first grade year.  We would love for all parents to attend!

What we are learning about…
In reading, we are continuing to work on synthesizing what we learn.  We are using new information and what we already know to better understand what we read.  This week, we read A Tiger Cub Grows Up and learned about baby tigers and how they grow.  In writing, we wrote so descriptively that we were able to find which pictures went with writing by using the descriptions we wrote.  In math, we are working on fractions.  We are working on identifying halves and fourths and writing these fractions.  We have also learned a little about the Kentucky Derby and had our very own derby race!

Don’t forget to send in your permission slip for our field trip May 10.  Also, please check the weather and have your child wear appropriate clothing and tennis shoes (or comfortable walking shoes).  Don’t forget to send in your WES tshirt or a white tshirt to tie dye.
