Derby Hats
The first week in May we will be learning about the Kentucky Derby.  We would like for each child to wear a derby hat or a jockey hat.  A jockey hat can be made out of a baseball cap.  I don’t want you to buy a hat.  I want you to decorate a hat you have or make one out of paper.  Be creative!  Please wear your derby hats on Friday, May 6.
Thank you Celebration
Please join us for a Thank you Celebration May 20 at 1:40.  We will celebrate our moms and dads.  We will also celebrate the end of a wonderful first grade year.    We would love for all parents to attend!
What we have been learning…
In reading, we have been learning to synthesize what we read.  In other words, we are using the information that we know and what we learn as we read to better understand information.  This week, we are reading A Fruit is a Suitcase for a Seed.  In math, we are continuing to work on comparing numbers.  Soon, we will be starting a unit on fractions.

  • Please send in your white WES t-shirt or a plain white t-shirt to tie dye by May 2
  • Due to heavy rain, our playground is full of water.  We try to keep kids out of the water.  Please keep a change of clothes in a plastic bag in your child’s backpack to change into if there is an accident.
  • We need treasure chest items.  If you could send any treasure chest items to school, we would appreciate it.
